Cadden Family Vineyards – Our Story

Cadden Family Vineyards is about Family, Friends and Wine.  And, of course, all exceptional wines begin in the vineyard.  Cadden Family Vineyards is located in the Pope Valley region of the Napa Valley.  Hugh and Luanne Cadden first discovered the magic of the Pope Valley in 1989 when they purchased their sixty acre ranch.  However, it was not until 2007, and after much time exploring the vineyards of France, that Cadden Family Vineyards was born.

Cadden Family Vineyards is located in the Pope Valley within the Napa Valley appellation.  Situated on the back side of Howell Mountain in the northeast corner of the Valley, the Pope Valley region is remarkable for its warmer days and nights due to its elevation, 600 to 900 feet, and the absence of any marine cooling from the Bay.  Our growing seasons are much dryer than those of the main valley and the resulting stress yields remarkable fruit with smaller berries and smaller clusters and concentrated and complex flavors.

Abutting the northeastern portion of the historic Juliana Vineyard at an elevation of about 690 feet, Cadden Family Vineyards comprises six acres which include four varietals all planted on 101-14 rootstock.  Our red varietals are planted to French clones.  These include three acres of Cabernet Sauvignon (EV 337 and EV 169); one acre of Cabernet Franc (EV 214); and Two acres of Malbec (EV 596).  The vineyard, which is farmed sustainably by our manager Alejandro Maldonado and our son Tom, is south facing on clay loam soil with 8x5 spacing and vertical trellising.

Our Cadden Family Vineyards single vineyard designate program experienced its first release in August 2015 when Tedeschi Family Vineyards released its 2012 Malbec (Cadden Family Vineyards).  Kudos to winemaker David Sundberg, along with Mario Tedeschi, for a delicious wine.

Cadden Family Vineyards single vineyard designates are now released with Toybox Wine Cellars.  Toybox has released its 2015, 2016, and 2017 Toybox Sauvignon Blanc (Cadden Family Vineyards) along with a 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 release of the Toybox Malbec and  2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Cadden Family Vineyards). https://toyboxwines.com/store/
